GPS based Electronic Toll Payment System

The traditional toll collecting system has been ine cient in dealing with the ever growing number of automobiles on the road. The fact that tra c congestion has witnessed a major rise over the last decade, serves as evidence to this. It has become a need of the hour to alleviate the problem with the support of existing technology and innovation. Toll ways are one of the prime locations which contribute to congestion on roads. Adaptation of Electronic Toll Collection systems has proved to be welcoming change in an e ort to solve congestion problems. The proposed system in this paper aims to facilitate electronic payments on tolls. The said system is designed to utilize GPS coordinates of driver on arriving at tolls to trigger payment through prepaid online wallet. The potential bene ts of such an ecosystem for payments of toll fees would translate to reduced travel time, no or less congestion, eco e ciency and friction-less payments. Vehicles movement related parameters may also be noted and analysed to fasten the process. Such a system will harness the power of wireless internet technology such as 4G LTE, 3G to connect to database via smartphones/tablets and established payment technologies to facilitate secure payments.
