Abstract
Banana is a gross feeder crop and exhausts large quantities of nutrient from the soil and requires a continuous replenishment. The excess applications of inorganic fertilizers lead to nutrient imbalances, inefficiency and environmental pollution while inadequate application of nutrients causes soil fertility depletion which drives the use of organic nutrient sources alone or in combination with inorganic fertilizers. Organic food production is a holistic system which promotes and enhances soil fertility and biological diversity as well as improving quality of fruit. Therefore, to eliminate both over and inadequate applications of inorganic fertilizers, use of organic and integrated nutrient management is best alternative for sustainable crop production and maintenance of soil fertility.
