Abstract
Computing is set of sequential activities performed on available raw data on the basis of some criteria in order to extract useful data. In past few years, computing has witnessed tremendous change starting from room-sized systems kept at some centralized geographical location to the handheld mobile cloud computing systems that can be used anywhere on the globe as a computing device with the help of internet. Cloud computing enables the user to get on demand access to various computing resources through internet on pay per use basis. This paper explored the concept of cloud computing and stated the formal definition, various characteristics, different cloud deployment models and cloud service models along with their advantages and disadvantages. Multiple challenges that cloud computing deployment is facing in modern world are pinpointed in this paper and draws a special attention towards the advantages, disadvantages and applications of cloud computing.
